Wondering how to service your Kubota SSV Series Skid Steer by replacing the coolant?

At Kubota Center, we understand that regular maintenance is key to keeping your Kubota Skid Steer running smoothly and efficiently. One important aspect of maintenance is replacing the coolant every two years! We’ve compiled a quick guide for you to be able to change out your coolant on your Kubota Skid Steer quickly to minimize your down time. Let’s take a look through the steps of replacing the coolant on your skid steer!

Required Materials:

  2. Eye protection
  3. Suitable drain container
  4. Shop rags or paper towels
  5. Kubota Operator’s Manual
  6. Either a 50/50 pre-mixed antifreeze or unmixed antifreeze. If you go with unmixed, you will need to mix 50/50 with water prior to refilling.

To Remove the Current Coolant:

  1. Park the skid steer on a firm, level surface.
  2. Set the parking brake.
  3. Lower the lift arms to the ground.
  4. Stop the engine & remove the key.
  5. Wait until the engine is cooled down completely.
  6. Unhook the negative terminal on the battery.
  7. Remove the bonnet cover.
  8. Remove the hood that covers the radiator cap.
  9. Pull the coolant drain hose free and remove the drain plug to drain the coolant.
  10.  Remove the radiator cap.
  11. Drain the coolant completely into your suitable drain container.
  12. If your machine is equipped with a recovery tank, remove and drain that tank as well. (Install it back to its original position after draining.)

Adding New Coolant:

Caution! Antifreeze can be extremely hazardous, poisonous, flammable or explosive. Read all warnings in your current operator’s manual. Always dispose of antifreeze according to local regulations.

  1. Reinstall the drain plug.
  2. Position the drain hose back into its original position.
  3. To clean the area, rinse the radiator and surrounding areas with water.
  4. When refilling the antifreeze solution, use only fresh water and fresh antifreeze.
  5. Antifreeze capacity:
  6. Reinstall the radiator cap.
  7. Reattach the ground to the battery.
  8. Restart the engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes.
  9. Shut the engine off & remove the key.
  10. Recheck the coolant level.
  11. If needed, top off to the marked level if needed.
